Wenxuan Hou (Wen) is Chair in Corporate Finance at the University of Edinburgh Business School. He received his PhD from Manchester Business School and pursued executive education at Kellogg School of Management. He was at Durham University as a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) and then Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) until he joined Edinburgh in 2012. Wen is elected as a Co-chair of the Young Academy of Scotland at Royal Society of Edinburgh (Scotland's national academy), the 30th President of China Economic Association (UK/Europe), a Board Director of Asian Finance Association, a Senior Fellow of China Centre for Globalization and a Panel Member of Hong Kong Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) 2020. |
Wen has served as an Associate Editor, Guest Editor or Advisory Editor of European Journal of Finance, Finance Research Letters, Journal of Business Ethics, Abacus, Business History, China Economic Review, Corporate Governance: An International Review, International Small Business Journal, International Review of Financially Analysis and China Finance Review International. He co-organized conferences with Review of Finance, Review of Corporate Finance Studies, Journal of Corporate Finance, Economic Modelling, Emerging Markets Finance and Trade and International Review of Economics and Finance among others on the themes of a) Chinese capital markets, b) ethical and sustainable entrepreneurship, c) legal institutions and finance, d) corporate governance in emerging countries, e) microfinance, f) green finance and e) financial technology.
His research interests cover corporate finance and governance, emerging markets, law and finance, business ethics and financial markets. He has published around 50 articles in FT50, ABS-4*/3* and ABDC-A*/A journals, six books with Palgrave Macmillan and 16 book chapters, including publications in European Journal of Operation Research, Journal of Business Ethics, Business History, Abacus, Auditing: A Journal of Practice & Theory, British Accounting Review, Corporate Governance: An International Review, European Journal of Finance, Energy Economics, Energy Policy, Economic Modelling, International Review of Financial Analysis, International Small Business Journal, Journal of Business Research, Journal of International Financial Market, Institutions & Money and Regional Studies among others.
Wen has taught a range of courses including Corporate Governance (MSc and executive), Corporate Finance (UG), Global Financial Markets and Emerging Economy (MSc), Advanced Finance Theory (MSc, 2009-2012) and Business Finance (MBA,2012-2014), and received multiple Best Teaching Awards.
